When the founding members of Christian Horizons were setting up services to meet the needs of persons with disabilities, their vision was not limited to Ontario but was seen as reaching out across the world. While a global mandate might not be appropriate for the work of some organizations, it is not surprising that it was part of the birthing process in this situation; having a call unto all nations is not a new concept for Christians.

When you receive the monthly updates you will gain a greater understanding of the desperate situations persons with special needs are facing worldwide – especially in developing nations. It is estimated that only 2% of the 400 million individuals living with a disability in the developing world have access to proper services. As we leave our continent, issues facing the disabled such as social rejection, lack of educational opportunities and abandonment by family greatly intensifies. There simply are not enough groups working to help heal the problems.

The choice to step out in faith and answer the global call has brought with it many challenges, but God is blessing our efforts. In such a short time there have been many wonderful accomplishments and I look forward to sharing them with you in the months ahead. We continue to learn many important lessons as we walk through these early years of global ministry.
