SEMINARS & COURSES


Christian Horizons Educational Services provides seminars and workshops in communities throughout Ontario, including areas ranging from Ottawa to Windsor, Toronto to Sudbury/Elliot Lake.
Education opportunities are available to family members, students, volunteers and social services professionals.

Christian Horizons Educational Services provides three OPTIONS to serve you:


1. Attend a course along with Christian Horizons staff.
2. Request an instructor to deliver sessions at your location.
3. Certify an instructor to teach our courses to staff within your base of employment.



 


Option One / Attend a course


Each year, Christian Horizons offers hundreds of courses to our staff across Ontario. Our courses are designed to be practical, interactive and fun.

Option Two / On-site Course Delivery


Request an instructor to deliver sessions at your location to staff from one or more organizations.

Description: This course focuses on recognizing abuse, and responding to and report abuse towards the person with exceptional needs.

Description: This course focuses on reducing vulnerability of the person with exceptional needs while also reducing the risk of false allegations of abuse.

Course Name: Responding to Reports Developed by: Christian Horizons
Description: This course is mandatory for all Christian Horizons Managers and is offered to support workers who may be asked to serve on inquiry teams. It helps to navigate the complex challenges associated with allegations of abuse. The course addresses practical questions, and allows participants to apply course content to realistic case studies to make the learning both dynamic and relevant.

Course Name: First Aid/CPR (Emergency/Standard) Developed by: Canadian Red Cross
Description: The Emergency course provides simple First Aid & CPR techniques taught in an interactive environment, for individuals who want an overview of First Aid & CPR for the home or workplace. The course covers skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for adults, CPR Level A, and other topics such as choking, airway and breathing emergencies and prevention of disease transmission. |The Standard course includes all elements of the Emergency course as well as more comprehensive First Aid & CPR techniques and more severe sudden medical conditions and injuries to the head and spine.

Description: Leaders learn how to create a culture where people choose personal accountability as a way of life, delivering agreed-upon obstacles. This workshop is designed to help participants recognize the cost of blaming, protecting, defending and playing it safe. In contrast, the advantages of taking responsibility for their lives, relationships, challenges and results become clear.

Course Name: “I Don’t Have Time” Solutions Developed by: Christian Horizons
Description: Using practical tools and application, leaders will explore ways to make the most of their valuable resource of time. The workshop includes topics of priority setting and scheduling as well as common challenges such as procrastination.

Course Name: Mastering Competing Values Developed by: Christian Horizons
Description: Through interactive activities, group discussion and practical theory, this course explores how to master the following competing values:

• relational skills to meet the complex needs of the person receiving support, their family members and the support staff
• the call to be a great manager by stabilizing systems, implementing structure and maintaining control

Course Name: Creating Optimal Work Environments for Employee Performance Developed by: Christian Horizons

Course Name: Australian Bushfire: Would your Team Survive? Developed by: Human Synergistics
Description: The bushfire survival simulation jumpstarts the team’s creativity and problem-solving and uncovers the working dynamic of the team. The group assesses their interactions and compares their profile against profiles of effective and ineffective teams. Through goal setting they set new ways of interacting with one another in group interactions.

Option Three / Instructor Sessions

Participate in instructor sessions that allow your staff to be certified to teach our courses within your base of employment.

As of 2010, Community Living Wallaceburg now has a certified instructor to deliver Reducing the Risk and Reducing Vulnerability.
