Our 5 Service Principles
We believe that each person we support has intrinsic value. All of us have unique abilities and gifts to be shared. Christian Horizons seeks to provide supports in a manner that honours each person’s intrinsic value as loved by God and bearing His image within the framework of the following principles:
- Spiritual:
We recognize people’s individual responsibility to determine their own response to God. We celebrate the fact that each person can approach God, who loves them passionately. In all aspects of our service we seek to increase each person's understanding of God’s love for them. For those who choose, we help them respond to God’s love in a way that will enhance their own personal life and positively affect them in their everyday living.
"Shout for the joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord comforts His people and will have compassion on His afflicted ones." Isaiah 49:13 | Physical
We recognize each person’s unique physical abilities and interests. We celebrate our unique characteristics as created by God and seek to enhance each person’s acceptance of their physical characteristics and assist them to achieve physical development according to their needs, desires and abilities.
- Intellectual
We recognize each person’s unique intellectual development. We celebrate our unique intellectual characteristics as created by God and work to provide people with the necessary skills, or direct them to resources to equip them to address life’s challenges. It is our desire to support people in developing and growing to their maximum potential, enabling them to make positive choices and to participate in beneficial aspects of life.
- Emotional
We recognize each person’s unique emotional development. As Christians who celebrate the unique way that God has designed each person, we work to provide people in our care with a healthy and stable environment that will minimize negative stress and seek to strengthen each person’s ability to function positively in their environment.
- Social Interaction
We recognize that each person has a need to associate with others. We acknowledge that our relationships with others enrich the quality of our lives and seek to assist each person to develop valuable and positive interpersonal relationships.
