Sample Areas of Consultation and Training
- Abuse Prevention
Our Reducing the Risk training has been adopted by agencies across Ontario as their standard for abuse awareness training. We have also helped agencies review and enhance their policies and practices on abuse prevention, detection, and investigation to help create safer environments for persons at risk for abuse as well as staff who feel vulnerable to false allegations.
- Audit Tools
We have developed and refined tools for assessing, comparing and identifying discrepancies in costs associated with providing supports to persons in a variety of living and day-support situations. We have assisted many agencies to review their internal supports to help address cost differences. We have also developed tools to better predict the costs of providing services to persons new to your organization.
- Ethical Issues
Providing supports to vulnerable persons may raise a variety of ethical issues. We have developed workshops that include a framework for understanding ethical issues and have worked with organizations as well as internal ethical review committees to consider their roles, responsibilities and approaches to ethical dilemmas.
- Filing Systems
We have developed and implemented a filing and documentation system ideal for programs serving persons with disabilities. This system, if adopted organizationally, enables staff working across programs to access the critical information they need to do their job. It also facilitates reviews by internal or third party quality assurance programs. MCSS program compliance reviewers have expressed their appreciation for this filing system.
- Person Centered Planning and Support
Christian Horizons is committed to person centered planning and support. Our team has provided direction and leadership within Christian Horizons and has also provided training and consultation to other organizations. We have experienced facilitators that have used PATH and other tools to assist in preparing for and developing of a person centered support plan.
- Program Evaluation
We have developed several approaches and tools for quality review and improvement. We can work with organizations articulate program standards and to provide on-site, intensive review of program quality and functioning.
We also provide training and tools, that are based on legislation, best practice and organizational policies and procedures and that will enable your staff to participate in your own quality assurance program.
- Self Managed Work Teams
For more than a decade, Christian Horizons has embraced the concept of Self Managed Work Teams and has been learning from their implementation across this programmatically and geographically diverse agency. Since that time we have also helped several agencies explore the concept, determine whether SMWTs might be suitable for them, and explore how they might implement them. We can help your organization explore the benefits and challenges of implementing SMWTs. And, should your organization that accept the challenges, we can help create systems and approaches to maximize the effectiveness of SMWTs.
- Surveys & Focus Groups
We have developed and implemented a variety of surveys both within Christian Horizons and in other settings. This includes consumer satisfaction surveys, surveys of family members, and other surveys collecting quantitative data. In addition, our team has a wide breadth of experience in conducting face-to-face and phone interviews as well as leading focus groups.
