I go to the group home every other Saturday and stayed there for two hours. It has been totally a new experience on my part as I have never spent time in my life either at my volunteer work or at church taking care of people with exceptional needs. It has taught me to be more caring and patient. When I see the individuals happy, I feel good too. I am willing to visit them every alternate Saturday on a regular basis.

Having to learn about community from Christian Horizons’ perspective has been a great experience. Having been a student studying about social work and learning about giving it back to community has been enlightening. Having been a Christian student learning about the social welfare and the politics in school has often made a frown on my face, but the things that I have observed while volunteering with Christian Horizons made me look at everything from a whole new perspective. The dream I have often thought about giving back to community with what I have learned from school and church now seems easier to accomplish.

My name is Lucivani Barbara and I volunteer at Christian Horizons. I help people with development disability at Christian Horizons to improve their quality of life by doing things such as taking them out to walk in parks, visit the zoos, do fun crafts, and just hang out and be friends with each other. I started to volunteer because I have a heartfelt desire to make a difference in the lives of these people. I thought, somehow, I would help them to be a better person. I have had time to build relationship with people here, they are so honest and simple and loving. They touch my heart and make a difference in my life. I enjoy spending time with them, each with their own set of differences, and I am blessed to be a part of their lives. I think it is wonderful to volunteer at Christian Horizons because I value and cherish the relationships that I’ve build here. I believe that I do help to improve the quality of life for the residents here, but I know that they improve the quality of my life.

Volunteering in my community was one of the things I most wanted to accomplish.
All because I believe in giving my time and support could help at least one person and more than all help me in being a better individual.
When a friend suggested volunteering at Christian Horizons, I contacted the Organization right away.
On Tuesday nights I accompany a group where I volunteer to "Friendship".
Here they gather with other individuals to sing songs, play games and participate in other activities. It is such an awesome experience and great fellowship.
I have learned that we are all created beautiful and each individual has a purpose on this earth.
The group has taught me more "patience".

My name is Stephanie Raji; I am a 3rd year student at York University currently pursing my honors degree in Human Resources Management.
I have been given the privilege to volunteer for Christian Horizons since November 2005. I use the word privilege because it has truly been an amazing four months.
The volunteer agreement is very beneficial for both the organization and the individual volunteer.
I thank God that I have found myself volunteering for such a wonderful organization.
There are not a lot of organizations that one can volunteer for that will actually give the volunteer the hands on experience that they are looking for.
I on the other hand have been so blessed; I have learnt so much in so little time.
What I have learnt about Christian Horizons is that each and every single employee that walks in the door has such a strong and loving spirit it is just unbelievable.
Since the very first day that I stepped into Central District Office, I felt right at home.
Volunteering has provided me with a great deal of valuable experience and I know it will only be to my benefit when the time comes for me to search for a job in my field of study.
I will forever be grateful to everyone at Christian Horizons, especially the wonderful staff at the Central District Office.
