Ontario Supporting Workshop for Abuse-Prevention

Ontario Supporting Workshop for Abuse-Prevention

NEWS

Ontario is helping adults with developmental disabilities to identify abuse, protect themselves and report a problem. With support from the province, the Advocates Against Abuse prevention workshop is being expanded to 360 developmental service agencies across the province to help more people access workshops and toolkits in a friendly learning environment.

The workshop, which was developed through a partnership between five developmental service agencies, including Christian Horizons, uses a unique training model where self-advocates teach their peers to identify and report abuse. The training uses a variety of learning tools including visual and interactive resources that caters to various learning styles. Supporting programs that improve the safety and security of adults with developmental disabilities is part of our plan to help people in their everyday lives.
