College Partnerships

Culinary Skills Development & Employment Program

This culinary program, a partnership between Humber College and Christian Horizons, provides specific skill based career outcomes in securing paid employment opportunities in the culinary field. The program also encourages inclusion in the education via the teaching by a college culinary chef instructor and local business communities by way of a variety of job placements.

Inclusion through Culinary Skill Development and Employment provides persons with developmental disabilities the opportunity to gain culinary education and practical hands on job skills training within environments that encourage them to live their full work potential. The goal is to equip students to have a substantial advantage for successful employment in entry level food establishments.

The maximum number of students in the program is 15

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the specific job-related knowledge they learned, such as Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act, Ministry of Labour-Health and Safety Awareness, on-the-job safety, teamwork and following directions.
  • Pass certification in Safe Food Handling, Emergency First Aid, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHIMIS)
  • Demonstrate job success and “soft” skills such as professionalism, positive attitude, good work ethic and appropriate workplace behavior.
  • Use the learned skills to improve employability and retain employment after they are hired.
  • Meet the standards of learning as set out by Humber College Culinary School.

Humber College Reunion

It is hard to believe that this year marks our fifth year in partnership with Humber College for our Culinary Certificate Program! What better way to honor the special occasion than with our first ever Humber College/ Christian Horizons Reunion celebrating graduates from 2015 through to 2019.

The room last night was filled with a joyous energy as friends reunited, mingling together at the selfie photo station, DJ dance floor, slide show @memories corner and the dessert station.

However, the best part of all was leaning in to listen to the stories that were being shared with one another regarding the milestones in their lives since graduation. One friend shared with another that this May marks her second wedding anniversary – while another conversation between grads announced that they have been employed now for three years.

Special thanks to Michelle and Angel our graduates from last year who helped our Employment Services with the organizing and decorations for this phenomenal event.

We are excited to announce that as of June 2019, 58 graduates will have received their Humber College Basic Skills Culinary Certificate. If you are interested in our Summer or Fall Employment and College course offerings contact Mary Lou Kelly at or follow us at
