Share your time and interest with someone

When you share your time and your gifts with others, you’ll find that they have a lot to share with you. There are many ways you can use your personality and talents to build relationships with people with exceptional needs.

Volunteer opportunities are available within our programs, at camps, for supported excursion, to help with special events and in our offices. You can assist with a fundraising event, complete maintenance or administration tasks, share your music or other interests, or accompany people on outings.

What are Family Retreat Volunteers?

Family Retreat Volunteers provide one-on-one support to persons with exceptional needs and their families. Your support to a participant during retreat activities will allow  parents and caregivers to receive restorative respite. Family Retreat Volunteers are not expected to provide personal care or overnight support, administer medications, or perform intrusive behaviour interventions. Service as a Family Retreat Volunteer will give opportunities to build relationships to share the gospel and help others find hope and love in Jesus.

  • No previous experience necessary. Family Retreat Volunteers get training and orientation before families arrive.

  • Applicants must be 16 years or older.

Family Retreat Volunteers are asked to contribute financially to attend Family Retreat to keep cost down for families. We encourage Family Retreat Volunteers to raise funds through family, friends and faith communities.

For more information, call 1-866-362-6810 or email familyretreat@christian-horizons.org

Volunteer In Your Community

When you share your time and gifts with others, you’ll find they have a lot to share with you.

For more information on opportunities near you, contact a volunteer coordinator in your community.

To maintain safety in our programs, all people wishing to volunteer are required to go through screening, orientation, and training processes appropriate to their involvement.

Opportunities to serve

We have needs for people to help with one-time, as well as on-going, projects around the homes of people we support. Yard work, seasonal work, gardening, painting, and minor repair jobs are all examples of areas that a volunteer can get involved.

Share Your Skills

There are many opportunities to share your professional skills with people with developmental disabilities. Whether you are in health care, aesthetics, law, a plumber or a carpenter—sharing your professional skills is a highly valued way of donating your time.

Christian Horizons' offices also have opportunities to provide volunteer administrative support, such as filing, stuffing envelopes, data entry or proof reading.

Share Your Time

We support people with developmental disabilities who would love to have someone to spend time with them. You could go out for coffee, go for a bus ride, go swimming or to the movies—anything that interests you both.

As a program leader, you could do many things like lead drama groups, art sessions, music groups or exercise classes. You can even teach a cooking class or organize a church/community event that everyone can get involved in.
